I'll preface first by saying that I have read (and enjoyed) the books myself. However, I have enough sense to give it it's proper place in literature. I'm really not slighting it, but I actually read a post on a forum where someone said that they thought Stephanie Meyer was the best romance writer ever and that the Twilight series was the best romance story ever written. Romeo & Juliet, Pride & Prejudice, and many other classics were actually mentioned by name and still given a lower spot in the ranking.

This begs the question that has already been on my mind for several years...What of today will be a classic tomorrow?

Let's just look at the Top 10 Artists of 2008, according to Billboard.
1. Chris Brown
2. Lil Wayne
3. Rihanna
4. Alicia Keys
5. Taylor Swift
6. Leona Lewis
7. Miley Cyrus
8. Jordin Sparks
9. Jonas Brothers
10. T.I.

The saddest part is, you know who was number 11? COLDPLAY!!! Now there's a group that will be looked back on as a classic. But 30 years from now, when they're playing songs from our generation, will they really be playing "Lollipop" by Lil Wayne? God, I hope not.

Just checking...

As I get older, I realize that there are cultural realities that I'm losing touch with.

For example...text messaging. Don't get me wrong, I use text messaging consistently. But, not in the same way. I'll send a text message when I want to say the same thing to four different people...or when I have a quick question and don't want to get into a conversation...or when I'm in a situation that doesn't allow phone calls. But, I've watched a kid text back and forth to the same person for an hour, even though there is absolutely no reason he couldn't call the person.

That was what I call a "Reality Check".
